Vega Sicilia is one of Spain’s most iconic and prestigious wineries, with a rich history dating back to 1864. Here's a brief overview:
Founded by Don Eloy Lecanda y Chaves, a Spanish winemaker trained in Bordeaux, who brought with him French grape varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. He planted these alongside the native Tempranillo (then called Tinto del País) in the Ribera del Duero region.
The winery gained fame in the 20th century for producing some of Spain’s most celebrated wines, especially its flagship wine, Único, known for its complexity and extraordinary aging potential.
In 1982, the Álvarez family acquired Vega Sicilia, marking a new era of modernization and expansion. Under Pablo Álvarez’s leadership, the winery has maintained its legendary status while also expanding into other regions like Toro (with Pintia) and Rioja.
Despite its name, Vega Sicilia has no connection to the island of Sicily. “Vega” refers to fertile river plains, and “Sicilia” is believed to reference Saint Cecilia, the patron saint of music.
Tasting Notes
The 2020 Tempos Vega Sicilia Alión from Ribera del Duero is a refined and expressive Tempranillo (Tinto Fino) wine, showcasing aromas of black cherry, rose petal, and anisette, which lead into flavors of cassis, cocoa bean, clove, and lavender on the palate. The wine is marked by plush tannins and a lingering finish with a touch of candied orange. Despite a challenging harvest with September rains, the grapes achieved excellent concentration, resulting in a wine that is balanced, fresh, and vertical, with a slightly increased use of American oak and concrete to enhance structure and finesse. It is suitable for drinking now and can be cellared for up to 20 years under optimal conditions.

Domaine Comte Armand, located in Pommard in Burgundy’s Côte de Beaune, was established in 1826 when the Armand family acquired the prestigious Clos des Epeneaux vineyard. This monopole, covering 5.25 hectares, has remained the heart of the estate and is renowned for producing exceptional Pinot Noir. The 2014 Silverado Soda Creek Zinfandel from Napa Valley is noted for its dark fruit flavors of blackberry and black cherry, accompanied by undertones of white pepper, chocolate, and spice. It's described as a medium to full-bodied wine with a firm, silky texture, polished tannins, a persistent finish, and good balance. The 2014 vintage for Napa Valley is generally considered a superb one, meaning the wine is both complex and fresh.

Nestled in the hills on the North West side of the Stags Leap District, Silverado Vineyards Winery has been a favorite wine country destination and home to some of the Napa Valley’s most-recognized wines for almost forty years. In 1981, Ron and Diane Disney Miller and her mother, Lillian Disney, established Silverado Vineyards to make wines from the historic sites of the estate the family owns. The winery was named in honor of the Silverado Vineyard, one of the first four in Stags Leap District to plant Cabernet in the 1960s. The vineyard pays homage to the abandoned mining town at the top of the Valley which also inspired the name of the famous Silverado Trail where Silverado Vineyards and other iconic wineries of the Stags Leap District are situated. Silverado Vineyards owns five other storied vineyards across Napa Valley’s top AVAs: Miller Ranch, Mt. George, Soda Creek Ranch (Borreo), Firetree, and Vineburg. All of Silverado’s wines are estate-grown, produced and bottled. Winemaker Jon Emmerich is only the second lead winemaker in the history of Silverado Vineyards and celebrated his 30th vintage with the winery in 2020. Jon has grown Silverado’s reputation for quality and consistency along with his colleague Elena Franceschi, who has been Silverado’s associate winemaker for nearly 25 years. When Diane Miller passed away in 2013, Ron Miller became president of the Board of Directors of The Walt Disney Family Museum, and chairman of Silverado Vineyards until his passing in 2019. Diane and Ron’s children and grandchildren proudly continue to carry their family’s legacy forward as the owners of Silverado Vineyards.

About Winery
Clos René is an established Pomerol estate with roots tracing back to the mid-18th century, known as "Reney" at its inception. The estate is co-owned by the Garde and Lasserre families, with Jean-Marie Garde managing operations. The winery is particularly notable for its relatively late adoption of bottling wines at the estate, a practice that was common among Pomerol producers until the late 1970s.

Beaux Frères is the story of an uncommon encounter between the exceptional Willamette Valley, Oregon terroir and Founder Michael Etzel. While on vacation in 1986, Michael Etzel came upon an 88-acre pig farm for sale located on Ribbon Ridge in the Northern Willamette Valley, Yamhill County, Oregon. Domaine Dujac, founded in 1967 by Jacques Seysses in Morey-Saint-Denis, Burgundy, is a family-run estate that quickly rose to prominence for its elegant, terroir-driven wines and innovative approach to winemaking.
Jacques Seysses, originally from a family of biscuit manufacturers, left banking to apprentice under Gérard Potel at Domaine de la Pousse d’Or before establishing Domaine Dujac with 4.5 hectares in Morey-Saint-Denis. The first vintage was released in 1969, and the domaine soon expanded to include prestigious holdings in Échezeaux, Bonnes Mares, Chambertin, Romanée-Saint-Vivant, and Vosne-Romanée Malconsorts, eventually growing to about 17.5 hectares. Known for blending traditional Burgundian respect for terroir with modern techniques, Dujac became internationally recognized by the 1970s. Today, the estate is managed by Jacques’ sons Jeremy and Alec Seysses, along with Jeremy’s wife Diana, who joined in the early 2000s. Philippe Colin, son of Marc Colin, entered the family domaine in 1988 after studying viticulture and oenology in Beaune. In 2004, following his parents’ retirement, Philippe and his brother Bruno divided the family’s holdings, with Philippe establishing Domaine Philippe Colin in Chassagne-Montrachet. Starting with about 5 hectares of vineyards, Philippe expanded his range to include parcels in Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet, Saint-Aubin, Maranges, and Santenay, producing both red and white wines across 11 appellations. Known for his modern yet terroir-focused style, Philippe emphasizes subtlety, precision, and respect for nature in his winemaking. In recent years, his son Simon Colin has taken on greater responsibility, managing 9 hectares of vines and continuing the family tradition. Named after his wife Hana, Hanzell sits at the southern toe of the Mayacamas mountain range overlooking the south-western end of Sonoma Valley and San Pablo Bay. After extensive time spent in Burgundy, Zellerbach returned inspired and educated by the region’s wines and grapes—Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. He then planted these two varieties at a time when there were less than a few hundred acres of each planted in North America. Since 1975, Hanzell has been solely owned by the de Brye family, who is dedicated to the preservation of tradition with a progressive and holistic approach which will ensure the sustainability for generations to come.

The Mugnier family established their domaine in 1863 when Frédéric Mugnier, a successful liqueur merchant, acquired vineyards in Chambolle-Musigny, including the famed Clos de la Maréchale. For much of the 20th century, the estate’s holdings were leased out, and the family’s direct involvement in winemaking diminished. In 1985, Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier, representing the fifth generation, returned to Burgundy and began reclaiming the family’s vineyards, gradually restoring the domaine’s reputation. Domaine Lamy-Caillat was established in 2011, when Florence Lamy (daughter of René Lamy of Domaine Lamy-Pillot) and her husband Sébastien Caillat took over vineyards from an elderly neighbor in Chassagne-Montrachet. Starting with just 1.2 hectares of premier cru parcels, they envisioned a micro-domaine dedicated to artisanal winemaking, distinct from the larger-scale production of Lamy-Pillot. Sébastien, who had long been passionate about viticulture, brought meticulous attention to every stage of production—from vineyard care to bottling—emphasizing minimal intervention and precision.
