Domaine du Clos de Tart, located in Morey-Saint-Denis in Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits, is one of the region’s most historic and prestigious estates, founded in 1141 by Cistercian nuns of Tart Abbey. Remarkably, Clos de Tart has remained intact as a single Grand Cru monopole for nearly nine centuries, never fragmented or divided, making it the largest Grand Cru monopole in Burgundy today. After centuries under ecclesiastical ownership, the estate passed into private hands following the French Revolution and was acquired by the Mommessin family in 1932, who managed it for over 80 years. In 2017, the domaine entered a new era when it was purchased by Groupe Artemis, the holding company of François Pinault, marking a significant transition that combined centuries of tradition with modern investment and innovation.
