Winemaker Notes
Krug Clos du Mesnil 2008, crafted entirely from Chardonnay grown in the walled vineyard of Clos du Mesnil in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, displays a brilliant pale gold color with fine, persistent bubbles. The nose is intense and chiseled, offering aromas of lemon oil, candied citrus, green apple, and white flowers, layered with subtle notes of mint, chalk, and white pepper. On the palate, it is precise, vibrant, and mineral-driven, with soaring acidity that highlights flavors of citrus zest, slate, and chalky minerality, evolving into delicate hints of brioche and toasted nuts. The texture is both tense and refined, reflecting the cool, structured character of the 2008 vintage. The finish is long, saline, and complex, confirming this release as one of the most captivating and age-worthy expressions of Krug’s Clos du Mesnil.
About Winery
Krug Champagne is one of the most prestigious Champagne houses in the world, known for its commitment to quality and tradition. Krug was founded in 1843 by Joseph Krug, a visionary who believed in creating the best Champagne every year, regardless of climate variations. He established the house in Reims, the heart of the Champagne region. Joseph Krug’s philosophy was to focus on the individuality of each plot and its wine, creating a library of reserve wines from different years to ensure consistency and excellence. Krug is credited with pioneering the concept of non-vintage Champagne, blending wines from multiple years to achieve a consistent and complex flavor profile.
