About Winery
Founded in 1919 in Vosne-Romanée by René Engel, a professor of oenology and co-founder of the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin, Domaine René Engel became a renowned producer of prestigious Burgundy wines, including a highly regarded Clos Vougeot Grand Cru. The estate was managed across three generations—René, his son Pierre, and grandson Philippe—surviving a period of neglect in the 1970s to regain top-tier status. Following Philippe’s sudden death in 2005, the estate was sold to billionaire François Pinault in 2006 and renamed Domaine d'Eugenie.
