Domaine Joliet Fixin Clos de la Perriere

Description

Tasting Notes

Clos de la Perrière Premier Cru from Domaine Joliet is a complex, terroir-driven Pinot Noir with aromas of blackberry, cherry, plum, and wild herbs, accented by pepper, menthol, and subtle oak. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, with firm yet silky tannins, juicy ripe fruit, and mineral salinity. The finish is long, persistent, and structured, making it approachable in youth but best suited for cellaring, where it develops greater elegance and depth over 10–20 years.

About Winery

Clos de la Perrière in Fixin, Côte de Nuits, was founded in 1142 by Cistercian monks from Cîteaux, who recognized the exceptional terroir and planted vines on its limestone-rich slopes. The estate remained under monastic cultivation for nearly 500 years before passing through several families. In 1853, the Joliet family acquired the entire 5-hectare monopole, and for seven generations they have preserved and refined its legacy. Today, Bénigne Joliet leads the domaine, practicing sustainable viticulture and meticulous parcel-by-parcel vinification. The estate produces both red and white wines from this unique clos, which many experts consider worthy of Grand Cru status due to its history, terroir, and consistent quality.
