Tasting Notes
The Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes from Domaine Henri Magnien et Fils opens with aromas of cherry, raspberry, and strawberry, accented by violet, dried rose, and subtle spice. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, with supple tannins and lively acidity that frame red fruit purity alongside earthy notes of forest floor, mushroom, and mineral salinity. Oak aging adds hints of toast, almond, and baking spice, while pepper and licorice provide savory depth. The finish is long, balanced, and perfumed, showing youthful austerity but excellent aging potential.
About Winery
Domaine Henri Magnien is a historic Burgundy estate in Gevrey-Chambertin, with roots dating back to the 1600s. Officially founded in 1987 by Henri Magnien, it is now run by Charles Magnien, the 12th generation of the family, who has modernized the winery while preserving its heritage. The domaine is renowned for its old vines, including a unique Pinot Noir clone called “Pinot Magnien,” which produces concentrated, age-worthy wines.
