Domaine d’Auvenay, founded by Lalou Bize-Leroy in the late 1970s (some accounts cite 1979, others 1988), is one of Burgundy’s most enigmatic and prestigious estates. Situated in Saint-Romain, it reflects Bize-Leroy’s uncompromising philosophy of biodynamic viticulture, which she championed long before it became widely accepted. With tiny vineyard holdings and extremely limited production, Auvenay has earned cult status among collectors for its rare, terroir-driven wines that combine purity, intensity, and longevity. Often described as the “rebellious counterpart” to Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, where Bize-Leroy once played a leading role, Domaine d’Auvenay embodies her personal vision of Burgundy: wines crafted with reverence for nature, precision, and individuality.
