Winemaker Notes The 2022 Kupe by Escarpment Single Vineyard Pinot Noir (Martinborough, Wairarapa, New Zealand) is a striking expression of the Abel clone Pinot Noir, grown on Escarpment’s home block vineyard along Te Muna Road. It shows a deep ruby color with violet reflections and opens with aromas of ripe raspberry, black cherry, and wild rose, layered with cedar, sandalwood, bitter orange zest, and subtle graphite minerality. On the palate, it is ample and velvety, combining rich fruit concentration with fresh acidity. Notes of dark cherry, framboise, and spice are supported by silky, well-integrated tannins, leading to a long, elegant, and persistent finish. This wine balances power and finesse, reflecting both the terroir of Martinborough and the meticulous élevage in French oak.
