The domaine began with François Berthaut’s father acquiring a few hectares in Fixin, later expanded under Guy Berthaut in the 1930s, who pioneered bottling and exporting wines to the United States. His sons Vincent and Denis continued the growth through the 1970s, adding vineyards and building a modern cellar. In 2013, Denis’s daughter Amélie Berthaut, after completing her oenology studies, merged part of the family’s Gerbet vineyards in Vosne-Romanée with the Berthaut estate, creating Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet.
